Shrink Plastic Workshop at Nimble Fingerz Craft Shop

Shrink Plastic Workshop at Nimble Fingerz
Shrink Plastic Workshop at Nimble Fingerz

Last week we had a very successful workshop using Shrink Plastic - pictured here is our very own Sue ( Nimble Fingerz’s tailoring and knitting tutor) getting stuck in.  We taught the class how to use StaZon in with shrink plastic and why you get the better effects by doing so. Method ?

  • We used Black StaZon ink, to rubber stamp Joanna Sheen fairy images onto frosted shrink plastic
  • once the ink was dry, we coloured in the images with Sakura Stardust pens.
  • We then cut loosely around the stamped image.
  • Taking a heat gun, and using it over a heat resistant surface, we shrunk the fairy !
  • we then used the embellishment in conjunction with a full sized stamped image to make a stunning birthday card.

We run shrink plastic workshops every 6 weeks or so in the workshop studion in Rothwell, Northants.  To find out more please click here to go to our workshops section of the online shop, or call us on 0845 362 8511.

thanks., and well done to Sue, who is nortorious for telling people that “I don’t know anything about card making!!”

Modern Art Form using Seudocreme !!

Seudocreme on Window - latest piece from Katie

Seudocreme on Window - latest piece from Katie

Now you may well laugh - but it would seem that the Crafters streak that I have passed onto my daughter Katie has been developed a little too soon. This week she was rumbled whilst experimenting with her own version of glass painting !!!

Seudocreme nappy rash cream - well I’m all up for experimenting with new medium where possible !!

As a top tip though - after scraping off the bulk with a shower squidgee, I managed to clean this up effortlessly with Cilit Bang !

Not to self - don’t leave full pot of cream on window sill when child in room left to go to sleep on own !!

What a lovely Quilt Exhibition

Beautiful hangings from Ingrid Press

Beautiful hangings from Ingrid Press

Last Thursday, my very good friend Joan and I treated ourselves to a visit to Bramble Patch Quilt Shop in Weedon for a sneak at their Summer Exhibition.  It was lovely - a smashing selection of work from several superb Quilters.  The quilts on display covered a variety of skills and stitching styles. I was paticularly intrigued by work by C June Barnes. It was beautiful. June has exhibited 5 quilts based on the same quilting design. The differences in each of them though was remarkable. They ranged from one that was a pure white/cream blank base, a couple of rainbow dyed quilts, another with colour applied a large applique shapes :-  all based on the same quilt design. They were lovely.  I think the exhibition is running for another couple of weeks, and can be see at Bramble Patch Quilt shop in Weedon, Northants. I take my hat off to the staff there, as this has all been organised to raise charity funds for MacMillan Cancer relief.

It is definitely worth a trip, if you are into quilting, patchwork or stitching in anyway, then you will really appreciate this show.

Children’s Craft Workshop in Rothwell - A Great Success !

The Children Having fun in the Summer 2009 workshops

The Children Having fun in the Summer 2009 workshops

Well here we are in the middle of a very wet Summer. But not before we have enjoyed a couple of weeks crafting with local children. Featured here are Katie, Imogen and Nathan who had enjoyed a morning in the group card making using papers from the NEW Crafter’s Companion Popcorn Bear CD Rom.  These pretty papers can be printed at your leisure time and time again. Choose from hundreds of backing papers and colour ways, toppers, decoupage, pyrimage and tea bag papers. Although Crafter’s Companion have over the past few years released many great CD Roms, I particularly like this one as it is tasteful, versatile and adored by children.

To find out more, please check out our website.
